The Taiwan-Japan Industry Collaboration office (TJPO) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) signed an MOU on industrial collaboration with Japan’s Kagoshima Prefecture on February 7th with CEO Lu Cheng-chin (呂正欽) of the TJPO and Director General Sakou Tsukasa of the Department of Commerce, Industry, Labor, and Fisheries of the Kagoshima Prefectural Government, witnessed by Director General Leu Jang-hwa (呂正華) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Chairman Rokutan Shoichi of the Kagoshima Industry Support Center (formerly thedirector general of the Department of Commerce, Industry, Labor, and Fisheries of the Kagoshima Prefectural Government). This is the seventh MOU successfully signed with Japanese local governments, following MOUs signed with Mie Prefecture, Wakayama Prefecture, Akita Prefecture, Kochi Prefecture, Ehime Prefecture and Kagawa Prefecture. Both sides have agreed to dedicate their efforts to the food manufacturing, optical, electronic, automotive and other industries to strive for greater participation and support from relevant industry groups to seek out potential opportunities on which both Taiwan and Japanese enterprises can cooperate.
There are many globally well-known companies in Kagoshima Prefecture, including those involved in food processing (Calbee Inc), fish processing (Global Ocean Work), and electronics (Ulvac Inc., the Kyosera Corporation, and Sony Semiconductor) and the automotive industry (Toyota Body Research & Development Co., Ltd.), which means that the similarity of key industries between Taiwan and Japan is high. Both added value and competitiveness will be raised if the enterprises of both countries cooperate with each other.
This MOU is a milestone for both Taiwan and the Kagoshima Prefecture. After signing the MOU, Kagoshima Prefecture invited Taiwan’s enterprises to visit Kagoshima Prefecture to interact with enterprises in Kagoshima Prefecture in November of 2018 to help to encourage cooperation between both sides, and the TJPO will continue to make various efforts to promote collaboration with the local governments of Japan, and establish collaborative relations to develop the global market. This will not only help both sides expand in the global market, it will also create win-win relations for both sides.
