In order to strengthen local service, SOURCING TAIWAN 2019 will be held in four locations in Northern, Central and Southern Taiwan according to the various characteristics of the local industrial clusters. The first event in Taipei was held on April 24, 2019 at the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC). Focusing on the themes, "Intelligent Connectivity", "Sustainable Environment" and "Smart City" that reflect the global trends in industry development, nearly 200 international buyers from 43 countries were invited to participate in a total of more than 1,600 negotiation sessions with Taiwanese suppliers.
Chief of Staff of BOFT, Mr. Nick Ni delivered remarks at the press conference and launching ceremony, stating that differing from previous years, the procurement and negotiation fair this year would be held at the industrial clusters of various regions. This year's activities include the communication industry event held in the northern region, the Taichung's machinery industry event in central Taiwan in July, and Tainan's fasteners, rubber and plastic machinery event in Southern Taiwan, as well as Taipei's global retail consumer product event to be held in September. Global buyers are invited to negotiate with our local enterprises in the central and southern regions, and arrange on-site factory visits to allow better understanding in Taiwan's industrial innovation, and diversified and comprehensive solution capabilities. It is hoped that this fine-tuned business-matching platform will help businesses secure orders.
Many buyers who participated in the event said that Taiwan's telecommunications and green energy products meet the urban developmental needs of their countries. For example, supplier A from the Kazakh professional system integration business came to purchase Taiwan's smart surveillance systems, intelligence lighting, and routers etc. The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) came to purchase Taiwan's smart campus equipment, while a major Japanese energy storage company, Kaneka, sought to find a long-term partner in electric vehicles. Taiwanese suppliers who participated in the negotiations also gained much from the event. For example, Ji-Sheng Industrial was favored by the Philippine buyer ECOLEAN TECHNOLOGY SDN BHD, who had high demand for the company's water filtration products. The two companies will continue to advance discussions on their future model of cooperation. The BOFT has planned over 30 procurement negotiation sessions for this year to help operators seize business opportunities in overseas markets in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
