Success Stories

TPK

The first-generation iPhone caused a sensation when it first emerged in 2007, with sales topping 1 million units within five days. To this day, the "Apple" brand is still legendary in the tech market. In those days, other companies would go to any length to uncover Apple's secret, but one of the most amazing things they discovered was "Taiwan is indispensable to Apple's success." And TPK is finally being recognized as one of the most important contributors to Apple's achievements. Originally an obscure company, TPK has received extensive media coverage practically overnight, and its "transparent projected capacitive touch technology" is writing a new chapter in the history of mobile devices.

Although TPK was listed on the TAIEX as a "foreign investment company," Chairman Michael Chiang noted, "As a matter of fact, we are a Taiwanese company in and out." Chiang started out in Taiwan, and today as many as 30% of the company's employees in Taiwan are R&D personnel. Nearly 250 Taiwanese employees have been stationed in China as managers in charge of procurement, production, QC, and manufacturing. "Taiwan's manufacturing personnel have outstanding skills." said Chiang, "Although our manufacturing base is offshore, we retain our R&D center in Taiwan, which I believe it’s a correct strategy." Having kept its core technology in Taiwan, TPK announced in March of this year that it would increase its investment in Taiwan. TPK currently plans to establish a new touch R&D center in northern Taiwan at a cost of NT$2.0 billion on a site estimated to be approximately 16,500 square meters. Meanwhile, Cando Technology, an affiliated company, will invest NT$4.2 billion in a new 4.5G sensor lab in central Taiwan. TPK and Cando will also co-invest NT$1.5 billion to build a glass chemical strengthening plant. All together, TPK will invest NT$8 billion in Taiwan in the near term.
