At Thursday's weekly Cabinet meeting, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a Ministry of Environment (MOENV) report on a program to promote waste reduction, recycling and resource circulation. The premier instructed the MOENV to continue implementing the program, with an emphasis on achieving its objectives by promoting source reduction and developing diverse channels for waste recycling and treatment.
To realize the sustainable vision of net-zero emissions and zero waste by 2050, the MOENV has also proposed a draft bill to promote resource circulation, along with draft amendments to the Waste Disposal Act. Premier Cho said that the legislation aims to shift conventional thinking around waste management and remove regulatory obstacles to resource circulation. He directed the MOENV to strengthen public communication and collect feedback from all sectors of society during the bills' public consultation period, so that the legislative proposals can be finalized and swiftly submitted to the Executive Yuan for review.
