Convenient Geographic Location, Excellent Infrastructure
Nantou County is located at the center of the island of Taiwan. It is the only landlocked county among all counties and cities in Taiwan and has convenient transportation to all parts of the island.
The high speed rail station, Taichung International Airport and the Port of Taichung are reachable within 30 minutes from anywhere in Nantou County. The communities are all highly accessible. A network of highways and expressways connects major cities and growth centers in the area, including Freeway No. 3, Freeway No. 1, the East-West Expressway, Freeway No. 6, and major provincial highways.
The construction plan for the MRT system of the Taichung Metropolitan Area extends from the Port of Taichung to Nantou County. In the initial network that has been planned, the blue line will start from Chaoma in Taichung and extend 29.3 km to Zhongxing New Village in Nantou County. The MRT system will drive industrial development in the overall metropolitan area, and also benefit the balanced development of urban spaces.
Nantou County has abundant water and electric power. The numerous reservoirs of various sizes along the Wu River and Zhuoshui River provide abundant electric power and water for the county and other parts of Taiwan. Power sources include hydroelectric power and pumped-storage hydroelectric power. The pumped-storage hydroelectric power facility at Minghu currently generates the sixth-largest amount of power of any such facility in the world, and the largest amount in Southeast Asia; apart from power generation, the facility is also used for irrigation, drinking water, and industrial production. In an era of rising awareness of environmental protection and anti-nuclear public sentiment, Nantou County is capable of providing pollution-free energy sources.
Healthy New City, Resplendent Capital of Tourism
Nantou is a world-famous destination for its unique natural landscapes. Under the central government's tourism strategy, tourism, industry, and art and culture have been brought together in a series of activities to promote the county and actively develop new sources of international visitors. Nantou continues to dedicate efforts towards the promotion of its tourism attractions to visitors from China, Europe, the US, and other countries, and plans to improve the public facilities at its scenic spots. It has thus invited private participation in public construction to accelerate local tourism development.
Nantou has actively introduced new technologies in recent years to form industrial clusters and support startups. As major construction projects such as the Zhongxing New Village Advanced Research Park and Central Taiwan Innovation Park are completed, they will strengthen the competitiveness and innovation capabilities of Nantou County.
In the future, besides actively developing tourism, art and culture with the aim of making Nantou a garden city and capital of health, information technology will be utilized to make it a county of technology as it promotes industrial upgrading. Efforts will also be made to create a Taichung-Changhua-Nantou living circle, which will develop Nantou into a "satellite" innovation park for the Central Taiwan Innovation Park.
