InvesTaiwan today (17th) approved the total investment of nearly NT$4.9 billion in Taiwan by 5 companies, including Jih Sun Paper Ind. Co., Ltd., E-Lead Electronic Co., Ltd., and Goodweld Corporation under the Action Plan for Welcoming Overseas Taiwanese Businesses to Return to Invest in Taiwan, and EirGenix, Inc. and HI SHARP Electronics Co., Ltd. under the Action Plan for Accelerated Investment by Domestic Corporations. At present, the three major programs for investing in Taiwan have attracted over NT$1.4374 trillion in investments from 1,061 companies, and are expected to create 116,663 domestic employment opportunities, in which the Action Plan for Welcoming Overseas Taiwanese Businesses to Return to Invest in Taiwan has attracted approximately NT$910.7 billion in investments from 236 Taiwanese businesses and created 73,305 domestic employment opportunities; the Action Plan for Accelerated Investment by Domestic Corporations has attracted approximately NT$231.4 billion in investments from 124 domestic corporations and created 16,414 domestic employment opportunities; applications of 61 companies are still pending review.
Jih Sun Paper Ind. Co., Ltd. is Taiwan’s second largest manufacturer of paper for cultural purposes, and supplies high-end cultural paper to customers across the world. The paper is used in books, illustrated books, art paper, and packaging. Tariffs have been imposed on printed materials since the US-China trade war began. In response to market changes and to develop eco-friendly products with lower carbon emissions and higher added value, the company plans to recruit 61 employees and invest nearly NT$1 billion to build a paper mill in Taoyuan City Guanyin Industrial Park. The new paper mill will have coated art paper and eco-friendly packaging paper production lines. It will also have a sludge circulation and treatment system, improving the water and energy consumption of the conventional paper-making industry, reducing industrial waste while continuing to develop new products. The company aims to thus pass down cultural heritage across the world and contribute to the accumulation of knowledge.
E-Lead Electronic Co., Ltd. has been established for over three decades, and has expanded its business from consumer electronics to automotive electronics. It has production bases in Taiwan, China, and Thailand. As the automobile industry develops towards electric vehicles and self-driving cars, E-Lead Electronic Co., Ltd. has become quite popular among automakers due to its advantages in the head-up display industry. However, the company urgently needs to develop new products and also hopes to increase its production ratio in Taiwan due to the US-China trade war. In order to take part in and receive purchase orders for development projects of European and American automakers, the company plans to recruit 124 domestic employees and invest over NT$1 billion to build a second plant in Changhua’s Chuansing Industrial Park. The company will also install production equipment that meets specifications of international automakers in its current plant in Changhua, improving hardware and software to for better product traceability and to improve the image of MIT, so as to become the leading manufacturer of automotive electronics in Taiwan.
Goodweld Corporation is one of the top three manufacturers of welding consumables in Taiwan, and its products include manual welding electrodes, semiautomatic welding wire, flux cored welding wire, and submerged arc welding wire. The company has independent development ability and is able to provide turnkey services in overseas markets. It is also the first company in Taiwan to develop welding consumables for submarines, and has obtained international certifications. Its products are sold across 5 continents. Due to the US-China trade war, higher tariffs have been imposed on products sold from China to the US. The company thus plans to invest NT$1 billion to build a second plant and corporate center in Rende, Tainan City in response to customer needs and market demand. The company will add two solid welding wire production lines and use a smart system and big data collection to further improve product quality and output value, as it continues to dedicate its efforts in the field of welding consumables.
EirGenix, Inc. focuses on providing contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) services for biopharmaceuticals, and engages in the development of biosimilars and new drugs. It won the 2021 Taipei Biotech Awards, Asia's Best Contract Manufacturing Organization Award, and National Innovation Award – Business Innovation Award. EirGenix, Inc. has successfully attracted customers from Japan, China, Europe, and America with its CDMO services. The company plans to recruit 45 domestic biotechnology talents and invest nearly NT$900 million to add 1 smart production line in its existing plant in Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park, including 3 sets of 2x2000 bioreactors and 1 purification process area. The company will install a warehouse and logistics management and central monitoring system to improve its product quality and production efficiency, in order to secure a position in the international pharmaceuticals market.
HI SHARP Electronics Co., Ltd. has over three decades of experience in the development, manufacturing, and sales of automotive electronics and surveillance systems. Its products include monitors, surveillance cameras, parking sensors, and digital video recorders. The company has dedicated its efforts to the development of AI technologies in recent years. IoT is a key item in the development of smart industries, and there is high demand on machine vision devices. The company thus plans to recruit 200 domestic employees and invest over NT$900 million to build a plant with 5 smart production lines in Bade, Taoyuan. The company will install a smart management system, equipment, and MES software to effectively achieve product traceability, production and testing efficiency, and continue to meet the different needs of customers, creating a world with smart security.
