The Taiwan Trade and Investment Service Center in Fukuoka was inaugurated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs April 21 in the Japanese city, marking another milestone in the already robust bilateral trade relations.
According to the MOEA, Taiwan is a global front-runner in advanced semiconductor manufacturing and artificial intelligence hardware production, while Japan is a powerhouse in materials, equipment and quality management expertise.
The ministry said the Kyushu region is often seen as Japan’s semiconductor hub, while Fukuoka is the region’s economic center. The newly launched center is expected to serve as a key platform to channel resources and provide services such as investment consultation, business matching, technical exchanges and market development to both sides.
During her opening remarks, Deputy Economic Minister Cynthia Kiang said Taiwan and Japan are like-minded partners with complementary industries. The trade center will help promote even stronger cooperation between the two countries to boost growth momentum for the Asia-Pacific value chain and explore more win-win opportunities in other markets, she added.
The center is the second established under the ministry’s Pursuing Global Opportunities With Domestic Supply strategy announced by Minister Kuo Jyh-huei, following one that opened in the Czech Republic in December 2024.
The launch event was attended by more than 200 officials, political figures and business representatives from the two sides. These included Taiwan External Trade Development Council Chair James C.F. Huang, Fukuoka Gov. Seitaro Hattori, Saga Gov. Yoshinori Yamaguchi and Kagoshima Gov. Kōichi Shiota.
